This study explored the process of a communication program upon elderly married couples\u27 (where one spouse was hearing impaired) communication system. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were utilized to investigate the impact of hearing loss upon marital interactions, gather information about communication coping strategies, and examine the extent to which the program affected communication skills and marital satisfaction. An examination of the data pointed to specific interpersonal difficulties experienced as a result of the hearing loss as well as limited communication coping strategies. The data also suggested that the communication program should be used with caution with distressed couples
