The testing of a new component for an already running service-oriented system can often involve high costs, since it is hard to halt a service-oriented system with its often distributed components. Performing testing while the system is running can cause a performance decrease, pollution of the system with test data, and some service components might cost money per invocation. In this paper we propose a method for using WS-BPEL to simulate a service-oriented architecture. Any new components that require integration testing can first be tested using such a simulation.
