Purpose Over the past decades, much research has been done to improve the strength of flexor tendon repair in zone 2. A new idea is the use of barbed sutures, to gain more grip in the tissue. The Quill self-retaining system (SRS, Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Vancouver Canada) and V-Loc 180 (Covidien, Inc. Ireland) are barbed sutures designed to eliminate the need for knot tying and provide an even distribution of tension over the sutured tissue.
