The prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) is high in patients treated with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). However, patients with AF are not well represented in the landmark trials that established the clinical benefit of CRT. This indicates the need for further refinement how to handle AF in patients treated with CRT. The aim of the current thesis was to improve and refine the current CRT selection criteria in AF and sinus rhythm patients through evaluation of the mechanisms underlying (non-)response to CRT.
