The focus of this work is on the isovector giant monopole resonances. For these, few expiremental results are available. In the hydrodynamical model they can be described as breathing-mode oscillations. The best known breathing mode is isocalar in nature (the above-metnioned isoscalar giant monopole resonance) and wich, because of its simple sturcture, is an excellent tool to study nuclear compressibilities.
