The Vineberg operation has been, until recently, the method of choice for the surgical treatment of ischaemic heart disease. The original standard Vineberg operation consisted of epicardiectomy, implantation of a free omental graft to the de-epicardialized myocardium. The validity of the mammary artery implantation as a revascularization procedure is sufficiently proven by experimental and clinical investigations. Less convincing is the efficacy of epicardiectomy.
