Prejunctional receptors modulating noradrenaline release from sympathetic nerves have been studied extensively during the last two decades. Most evidence supporting a modulatory role for these receptors has been obtained from studies using isolated tissues, in situ perfused organs, pithed animals or anaesthetized animals.
