In describing the history of the Home Office (which may be seen as a kind of 'motheroffice'), this thesis has attempted to account for the origin of the modern bureaucracy of government in the Netherlands. Besides, incidental use has been made of theories from the organization-sociology (Parkinson, Jaques, Crozier),w hilst the stagesin to which the German sociologist, Max Weber, divided the process of bureaucracy - culminating in the 'ideal-type' of 'modern bureaucracy' - have been compared to the development actually established.
