L'environnement, domaine sociologique<br />La sociologie française au risque de l'environnement

The recognition of the complexity of environmental phenomena and of their links with human activities is a major stake for sciences. This study proposes to explain how sociology can approach environmental thematics and what are the consequences of this opening from the point of view of intellectual traditions and national contexts.The history of the links of sociology with the natural environment will first be retraced before analysing the foundations of the contemporary sociology of the environment and its main contemporary developments. One will retail the recent institutionalisation of the field in France, notably made visible by its outer characters. The claiming of a sociological approach of the environment has been limited, in this country, by the ascendancy of a sociology traditionally dedicated to the strictly social realities, but also to an appropriation of the environment by the governmental and research policies. This analysis makes of this case study a real investigation of science sociology and recalls the necessity to think science as an institutionalisation of cognitive activity. Besides, this research encourages to take in account the effects of environmental sociology on the structure of sciences itself. The ancient carving between natural and social sciences will be shaded in order to introduce another comprehension of the relation between the ecological and sociological phenomena encouraging the treatment of social, natural and environmental realities and of their reciprocal actions.La reconnaissance de la complexité des phénomènes environnementaux et de leurs liens avec les activités humaines est un enjeu majeur pour les sciences. Cette étude propose d'expliquer dans quelle mesure la sociologie s'est appropriée les thématiques environnementales et quelles sont les conséquences de cette ouverture du point de vue des traditions intellectuelles et des contextes nationaux.L'histoire des liens de la sociologie avec le milieu naturel sera d'abord retracée avant l'analyse des fondements de la sociologie contemporaine de l'environnement et de ses principaux courants contemporains. On détaillera alors la récente institutionnalisation du domaine en France, notamment rendue visible par ses caractères extérieurs. La revendication d'une approche sociologique de l'environnement s'est heurtée, dans ce pays, à l'emprise d'une sociologie traditionnellement limitée aux réalités strictement sociales, mais également à une appropriation de l'environnement par les politiques gouvernementales et de recherche.Cette dernière analyse fait de cette étude de cas un véritable travail de sociologie des sciences et rappelle la nécessité de penser la science comme une institutionnalisation de l'activité cognitive. D'ailleurs, cette recherche conduira à interpréter les effets de la prise en compte d'une sociologie de l'environnement sur la structure des sciences elle-même. L'ancien découpage entre sciences naturelles et sociales sera nuancé au profit d'une mise à plat des relations entre les phénomènes écologiques et sociologiques favorisant le traitement tout à la fois des réalités sociales, naturelles et environnementales et de leurs actions réciproques
