thrasherChased by Acquatic (sic) Monster Boats Loaded with Men, Women and Children Have Narrow Escape Some of our Humbermouth and Corner Brook folks on Sunday had an experience while returning from Curling by motor boats which they are not likely soon to forget. When off Crow Gulch a huge fish appeared, rear out of the water and making for one of the boats, that of Wm. P. Brake. At one time it looked as though the leviathan would fall upon the frail craft and swamp it. Most of the occupants of the other boats landed at Crow Gulch in order to avoid the acquatic monster and also to enable the boats to go to the resue of the other one. Finally, however, the sea-reynard was out-manouvered, and the boat and its occupants rescued from their precarious position. Rather than run the risk of another such experience the women and many of the men elected to walk the rest of the way to their homes from Crow Gulch, some two and a half miles. From descriptions given the Western Star by various persons of the party, we are of the opinion that the fish was a thrasher or sea-fox as it is sometimes called. On Friday Farquhar's boat returning from Middle Arm was also chased by a similar monster, and she barely escaped by entering shallow water.
