lashingIn Logy Bay, Outer and Middle Cove the sounds of the flail finally died with the decline of grain cultivation in the 1930s.... The only form of threshing recalled is "lashing" - beating the sheaf over a hard wooden object, such as a small wodden block or the rim of a barrel or puncheon. The grain was dislodged and fell into the barrel or onto a sheet on the floor. Unlike flailing, lashing did not crush the grain.PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit G. M.
