Add to ORKGgarboard...you'd cut in a half inch in your keel...an' you'd...you'd bring that down about...about a half inch or an inch probably down on the keel, and you take that out with your chisel, you know. Well now, this...this was called a garboard seam. Well this ravettin'* that you'd leave inside o' that garboard seam,you know, this half inch, would stop the oakum when you'd caulk in,an' make it watertight. ( * my spelling)YesJ. D. A.
