cutting off linnet/ cut linnet/

cut vAfter so much linnet is handled, it is all double linnet now, two men gather up the linnet between them along the gunnel to a straight edge, lifted high, and the linnet underneath is pushed off the gunnel into the water all along the length of the boat. This is called _cutting off_ the linnet and it allows the boat to slide along the spanline toward the back of the trap, away from the shore. _Cutting off_ is where the expert is required at either end of the boat. If the _cut_ linnet is not handled properly a loop can be let down and the fish lost.
