cat nThis game [Cat] consisted of 4 players. 2 players "in" and two "out" at any given time. The game was played in any open field or wherever enough open space was found. .. Each of the players that were "in" each had a longer stick about two or three feet long, and one to one-half inches in diameter which was used as a bat. a "cat", where the game got its name was also used. This was merely a shorter stick, usually around three or four inches long and one inch in diameter. One of the players who was "out", either B or A, would start the game by throwing the "cat" with the aim of having his fellow teammate catch it either in the air or on the first bounce and then put the opposing team out. The palyer 1 or 2 , however, had to attempt to strike the "cat" with their bat. If they succeeded in striking it forward they collected 4 points. If it went out at approximately right angles [over] [reverse] in the direction of A or B (see diagram) no pints were given or taken away, while hitting the "cat", but fowling it behind him the player and his partner lost or "went in the hole" 4 points.
