bide vThis expression was used to mean keep quiet and don't make a noise. It was usually said when an older person wished to hear something and the children were making a noise. But adults said it to other adults as well. It was usually said in a tone of contempt or anger. Quite often the person was impatient with the person(s) making the noise. I have never heard the expression used by anybody in my generation nor did I hear it when I was growing up. It was used by my grandmother and my father when he was a child.See cited quotation.JH 3/72Used INot usedNot usedThis card and the previous, B_13360, are filed in BEA drawer after B_3774
