An item of some interest. The term is apparently used in the recent report of the special committee of a non-Canadian fisheries biologists appointed by the Fed. Govt. to examine the recent drop in inshore cod catches. The inshore fishermen are blaming the heavy offshore trawler catches; some biologists think that cold water has been limiting the movement inshore of the offshore cod stocks; others think the biologists have overestimated the increase in growth of the offshore stock. The committee heard from some fishermen that in years past there was in the larger bays a local 'bay stock' of cod which were caught early in the season before the trap fishery began; and it is this stock that the term describes.] We'll pick it up in print soon.']G.
