In order to maintain or even expand their position in the energy supply market.The Baltic gas industries have already changed significantly in various ways, such as development of more customer orientated organizations, introduction of gas tariffs that reflect the competition from other fuels, and the use of billing systems based on metering. Never-the-less, many challenges remain to be overcome in the years to come, some of these related to the technical capability, safety and reliability of the gas infrastructure, or - in other words - the transmission systems and storage facilities. Among these challenges is also the possible development of new supply routes to the Baltic states in order to attain diversification of supplies.
