The BioGrate technology is capable of using waste with up to 65% moisture content. One of the first boilers was installed in March 1997 at Herralan Saha Oy's sawmill in Finland. The 3 MW Sermet BioGrate boiler plant (comprising 2 MW from biomass and 1 MW from oil) produces heat for lumber drying and for heating the sawmill buildings. It replaces a light fuel oil boiler.
