Ultrasonic gas-flow meters basically function on the principle of the measurement of ultrasonic transit times. Practical experience has shown that in real ultrasonic gas-flow meters the measuring characteristics depends on the composition of the gas to be measured. In this article, the acoustical and electrical influences on this principle of transit time measurement shall be examined, which may lead to medium dependent measuring errors.
