The open market 1993 presents interesting but also difficult problems to the industry. One of the items is measurement of gas properties. Gas properties such as gas composition, gas density, compression factor and calorfic value are measured daily in natural gas industry, in safety applications, in the determination of the degree of pollution and even when testing breathalizers. This paper seeks to give an impression of the amount of international standardization wotk in the measurement of gas properties that is being done today. The routine calibration of gas density meters will be deailt with in more detail and the tendencies to obtain traceability of gaseous reference materials will also be mentioned.
