A tool has been developed to assist in the design and evaluation of hydrogen demonstrations. Using ASPEN Plus, a process simulator, a series of subsystem models were developed, and a systematic methodology for their use was implemented in the evaluation of hydrogen energy systems for specific community energy applications. Because renewable production systems such as PV and wind are intermittent and thus difficult to model with a steady-state simulator, innovative techniques were developed. Hourly avs. for solar and wind resources as well as the power demand for a composite Central American village were evaluated with respect to the design and operation of two renewable hydrogen systems.
