The aim of this thesis is to investigate the value and validity of different disease and patient specific indicators for assessing the quality of prescribing in general practice. Different indicators for assessing the quality of heart failure pharmacotherapy are compared in chapters 2, 3 and 4. In chapters 5, 6 and 7 prescribing quality for the treatment of adult asthma is assessed in order to investigate the validity of different prescribing indicators and the value of the data sources they are used with.
