1,1´-Diisocyanoferrocene and a Convenient Synthesis of Ferrocenylamine

The new ferrocene derivative 1,1´-diisocyanoferrocene was prepared in 50% isolated yield from the reaction of 1,1´-diisocyanatoferrocene with formic acid followed by thermal decarboxylation and reaction with POCl3 / NH(i-Pr)2. An improved synthesis route to ferrocenylamine involves lithiation of ferrocene with t-BuLi followed by reaction with α-azidostyrene and subsequent acidification.
