Lyme disease is a tick-borne disease, transmitted to humans via the bite of an Ixodes scapularis tick infected with the spirochetal bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. This disease is endemic in Connecticut and has been increasing in prevalence throughout New England for the past 30 years.
