Big Data Analytics in Sports

The management of technical and strategic aspects of both, fan engagement and continuous performance improvement as it pertains to the sports industry was observed. The goal was to measure the extent of disruption that big data analytics and the implementation of new high technology has within the industry. Results showed that this new trend was highly effective in terms of fan engagement, and health management for players which improved performance and boosted revenue while being disruptive enough to cause increased regulation by league officials. Research methods included literature review on data analytics for a wide range of sports and an in-depth interview with the CEO and the Director of Business Analytics for the Portland Trail Blazers regarding the National Basketball Association
