Substituent effects on Ru3C2 clusters: Structural comparisons of some mu(3)-arylethynyl triruthenium-carbonyl clusters, [Ru-3(mu-X)(mu(3)-C2Ar)(Y-2)(CO)(7)], X = H, or Au(PPh3), Y-2 =mu-dppm or (CO)(2)

Complexes of the form [Ru3(μ-H)(μ3-C 2X)(μ-dppm)-(CO)7] have been widely characterized structurally for diverse R = H, tBu, CMePh(OH), CPhCH2, C5H7, C5H6Me, C6F 5, as well as being studied theoretically. The R = Ph derivative was found to be isotypic with its C6F5 analogue, presenting an unusual opportunity for a comparative structural study, both structures being (re-)determined at 'low'-temperature, whereupon the unit cell of the Ph derivative was found to double.
