It receives fictive and fantastic functions, whereas the original function of detection of failure tends to be forgotten. This deviation of a technical object is paradoxically endorsed by a survey lead in 1965 by physicians associated with Cgt Sncf. Fifty years later, a new combat, still with Cgt but in the urban public transportation is re-questioning the dead-man.El análisis del dispositivo hombre-muerto, aplicado al tranvía nos lleva a explorar el imaginario de sus creadores, operadores y constructores, a través de las metamorfosis sufridas por este objeto técnico. Al mismo se le han atribuido funciones ficticias y fastasmáticas, olvidando en algunos casos su función original: la detección de fallas. Esta desviación del objeto técnico se basa, paradójicamente, en una investigación llevada a cabo en 1965 por médicos asociados a la Cgt Sncf. Cincuenta años después, una nueva lucha, siempre con la Cgt pero ahora en el transporte urbano, vuelve a interpelar a este hombre-muerto.L’analyse du dispositif d’« homme mort » implanté sur les tramways nous amène à explorer l’imaginaire des concepteurs, exploitants et constructeurs au travers des métamorphoses de cet objet technique. Celui-ci se voit attribuer des fonctions fictives et fantasmatiques alors que s’oublie sa fonction originelle de détection de la défaillance. Cette dérive d’un objet technique prend appui, paradoxalement, sur une enquête menée par des médecins en 1965 associés à la Cgt Sncf. Cinquante plus tard, une nouvelle lutte, toujours avec la Cgt, mais dans le transport urbain, vient réinterroger cet « homme mort »
