Demokratien im Kampf gegen Diktaturen

The debate on Sweden’s policy during the Second World War has long been centered around the question of neutrality. In recent years a new trend has evolved that links the debate to the problem of the Holocaust. Following this trend the author of this article advocates a broader view putting the Swedish case into an international perspective. Focusing on the main question how democracies mobilize their forces against dictatorships it should be asked which moral decisions the actors were to take, which alternatives there were to chose between and why the actors decided to act the way they did. Among other fields Sweden's trade policy her policy towards refugees and the restrictions of democracy in Sweden during the war should be further investigated
