Gender Analysis of the Novel The Hunger Games

Barbora Netrvalová Gender Analysis of the Novel The Hunger Games Diploma thesis Abstract In this diploma thesis I deal with the gender analysis of the novel The Hunger Games, the first part of the novel triology of the author Suzanne Collins, which was released in 2008. In the first part of my thesis I focus on the introduction of theory and methodology, which I follow in analytical part. From a theoretical point of view, I follow feminist theories, focusing primarily on feminist critical analysis of archetypes and the method of resistant reading. I also deal with feminist literary analysis, I present the concept of beauty myth and the genre of utopian and dystopian fiction. The diploma is based mainly on the theories of Judith Fetterley, Pam Morris and Annis Pratt. In the analytical part of the thesis, I use critical feminist archetypal analysis and resistant reading. I analyze chronologically according to the story, I focus on female and male characters, their appearance, attitudes, behaviors and relationships between them. I also focus on the power relations and their gender dimension, or the state system in which the plot of the story takes place.
