BackgroundConnective tissue growth factor (CTGF) is a fibrogenic cytokine that is highly expressed in wound healing and fibrotic lesions. The role of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) in fibrosis is well documented, and the emerging understanding that its fibrogenic actions are mediated through CTGF has provided an attractive target molecule for the modulation of matrix overproduction in fibrotic disease.
