PELAKSANAAN PEMBELAJARAN PENDEKATAN BEYOND CENTERS AND CIRCLE TIME (BCCT) DI PUSAT PAUD FIRDAUS INTERNATIONAL PRESCHOOL BANJARNEGARA

The objectives of this research are 1) to describe the implementation of learning through BCCT approach at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara, 2) find out basic knowledge that students need to have in order to take part in the learning process through BCCT approach at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara, and 3) to identify the strenghts and weaknesses of the implementation of learning through BCCT approach at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara. This research is a descriptive-qualitative study carried out at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara. The sources of data for the study were school principal, curricullum section, area teachers, PAUD teacher coordinators, students’ parents and classroom teachers. The research data were collected through observation, in-depth interviewing and document analysis and validated within three stages, that is member check, peer debriefing and audit trail. An interactive data analysis technique which covers data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing was employed to analyze the research data. Based on the research findings, it is concluded that in developing students’ basic knowledge which is based on playing while learning principle using BCCT approach has been in line with the principles of BCCT approach. This was shown by the integration of learners’ activity at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara with islam religion education. In addition, the duration of learning activity was longer than it should be. The main characteristic of BCCT approach is the privision of scaffold which includes scaffold for the playing environment, scaffold prior to, during and after playing. The provision of the scaffold aims to develop concept, rule, idea and knowledge. Basic knowledge and behavior that can be developed at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara using BCCT approach are as follows: behavior (moral, religious, social, emotional and autonomous values) and basic knowledge (language, cognitive, physical/motor and arts. The strenghts of the implementation of BCCT approach at the Center of PAUD Firdaus International Preschool Banjarnegara rested on the adequate school management, teachers’ competence and discipline, learning program, learning facilities and active participation of students’ parents. Its weaknesses were on the lack of administrative staff and a limited space, and the progress report of students’ development and students’ development indicators overlapped. The research findings indicate the need to socialize the early age education to the community members, parents, policy makers, and related institutions. It is also of great importance to establish a dialogical relation between students’ parents, teachers and PAUD executives, to improve teachers’ competence and to increase the number of administrative staff. In addition, the progress report of students’ development needs to be reviewed
