Analysis of influential factors designing zero-energy buildings

Directive 2010/31/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 May 2010 on the energy\ud performance of buildings (recast) requires, that all new buildings are near zero-energy buildings by the\ud end of the year 2020. In order to achieve this requirement it is necessary to consider all the design\ud factors that affect energy consumption and take advantage of all the possibilities of gaining energy\ud from renewable sources. The thesis contains an analysis of the influence of building shape, window\ud surface and orientation on energy consumption for heating and cooling on a model building in\ud Ljubljana. The simulation was carried out using a computer program EnergyPlus V7-1-0 which\ud enables the dynamic analysis of energy consumption in buildings. The first part of the thesis contains\ud the design of variants, structural components, window openings and mode of heating, cooling and\ud ventilation. The second part of the thesis contains an analysis of different variants. All variants have\ud the same volume and the same heating, cooling and ventilation system, but are changing shape,\ud orientation and window sufrace on the south facade. It turns out that the energy consumption for\ud heating and cooling in model variants is most strongly affected by window surface and orientation.\ud Merely by changing this factors the requirements for near zero-energy buildings are not achieved, but\ud it turns out that the correct design of the building in the early stages lowers energy consumption for\ud heating and cooling and thus gives a good basis for further reduction of heat losses and energy\ud consumption
