Repositorios Institucionales: ¿Qué pueden autoarchivar los investigadores? El caso de dos universidades argentinas en el campo de Medicina

This work aims to determine and quantity the scientific production that researchers can deposit at institutional repositories. It applies a methodology based on the analysis of the access models of journals used by researchers to publish their articles to estimate the actual and potential access to scientific research outputs. It includes the case of the field of Medicine scientific production from 2006-2010 of two Argentine national universities. Methods: The scientific production at National University of La Plata (UNLP) and National University of Rosario (UNR) was determined by taking a sample from Scopus and the journal access models established through searches performed using Romeo-Sherpa, Dulcinea, DOAJ, SciELO, RedALyC and PubMed Central. Results: In the case of UNLP, 28% of articles are published in OA journals and 59% is potentially accessible by being published in subscription journals that allow self-archiving. In the UNR 42% of articles are published in open access journals, and 55% of articles potentially accessible through open access repositories. Conclusions: In both cases, there is a high viability of providing open access to scientific production in the field of Medicine through self-archiving in repositories. Additionally, the study identifies the leading magazines and publishers and determines the types of version of the articles possible to self-archive, providing useful information that facilitates the work of institutional repositories managers
