PREVALENSI INFEKSI SOIL TRANSMITTED HELMINTH PADA MURID MADRASAH IBTIDAIYAH ISLAMIYAH DI DESA SIMBANG WETAN KECAMATAN BUARAN KOTA PEKALONGAN

Background: Prevalence of Soil Transmitted Helminthes (STH) infection among primary school students in Indonesia is still high because awareness in keeping hygiene is still low. Objective: This study was aimed to identifying the STH infections and factors that underlied its infections such as: personal hygienity, environment sanitation,social economics conditions and student’s knowledge about STH to the prevalence STH infections at MII Simbang Wetan Buaran Pekalongan. Method: This was an analytical descriptive study with cross sectional design. The subject of this study is student of MII Simbang Wetan Buaran Pekalongan. Sixty eight students of them have fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Data were collected by interviewing via questionnaires for knowing their hygiene status and examination with direct method for detecting worm eggs on feces. Data were processed with SPSS 17,0 for Windows using descriptive analysis. Result: The results showed that 8,82% of sixty eight students were infected with STH type of Ascaris lumbricoides, 10,3% infected by Trichuris trichiura. From the questionnaires obtained that majority of students have good hygiene (91.2%),89.7% have good environment sanitation and 72.1% have good knowledge about STH, majority of students have parents whose income per month at least Rp 1.000.000,- (72.1%). Conclusion: Commonly prevalence STH infection in student of MII Simbang Wetan Pekalongan is comparable to the general prevalence STH that 21% STH infection attacking children in elementary school age.
