POLA SETING RUANG KOMUNAL INTERAKSI SOSIAL MAHASISWA Studi Kasus Jurusan Arsitektur Fakultas Teknik UNDIP

In a college , there are space wherein an informal contact among students happen, called a community space like the corridor, park, hall and plaza. It is a public space, which is used for doing some informal activities; relaxing, waiting for a class, circulation line, and for social interaction. The interaction is conducted by the students in utilizing the public space, which has the function as a circulation line, like corridor, terrace or hall for some informal activities; waiting for a class or lecture, doing some works by sitting on the floor or staircases. Which type of interaction does happen there ? This paper does not intend to make a generalization, but idiographically, by taking some case studies in the Department of Architecture, Faculty Engineering (DAFE) of Diponegoro University. Nowadays DAFE of Diponegoro University does not have any specifically designed community space. The phenomena we found is using public space as the traffic flow line because of the space limitation. This research is to find the setting pattern of community space, as a place for student's interaction in DAFE, and some indications generated from their behavior while they are doing some social interaction toward the space are considered as a community space. The student interaction is the free variable, while the setting of community space as the fixed one. This research is a qualitatively study, using the architectural and behavioral approach. The data analysis uses the categorization and content analysis. Data gathering method is done through the behavioral mapping, observation and interviewing. The result of this research are : (1) The forming of community space setting is affected by the setting condition (physic and spatial), activity, demand ofattributes. The condition of particular space make a situation of activity happening, where they both are affected by the demand of attributes. Different activity needs a different attribute, too . (2). The setting of the community space we found formed a pattern; the setting pattern toward the social interaction and social interaction pattern toward the setting one. The community space setting which was found toward the social interaction because of the activity done by the students, shows a flowing pattern, while the pattern of social interaction toward the setting shows the linear and centralize ones. The pattern appear in the movement pattern, lay out and the student's behavior while they are using the community space. That is the body postural position while they are doing the interaction. The trend is sitting together, joining with their same level friend, and lean on the space corner, because of the physical comfortable demand. (3) There are several community space the do not like, less, and they like very much when they are doing some social interaction activities, so that every community spaces the density of student activity does not distribute well in the DAFE 's community space. This shows that every community space has its own property. By distributing the properties needed by the students and minimizing the properties they dislike, it will be space with the same captured, so that all of the space will be liked. The property's supply in the community space has to be appropriate to the demand attribute and activities they do. The student will gather in a space of their activities direction, near, and accessible. The accessibility includes the distance and easy to reach. They gather in a place with a high visibility towards the parking area and the direction of lecturer's coming to the class, to know their lecturer's or friend's coming. Di dalam kampus terdapat ruang-ruang sebagai tempat terjadinya kontak informal antara mahasiswa, yang disebut sebagai ruang komunal; seperti selasar, taman, hall, plasa. Ruang komunal merupakan ruang publik, digunakan untuk melakukan kegiatan informal seperti duduk santai melepas lelah, menunggu kuliah, jalur sirkulasi dan untuk berinteraksi sosial. Interaksi sosial dilakukan oleh mahasiswa dalam memanfaatkan ruang publik yang berfungsi sebagai jalur sirkulasi seperti selasar, teras atau hall untuk kegiatan informal seperti menunggu kuliah atau dosen, mengerjakan tugas sambil duduk di lantai atau trap tangga. Tipe interaksi bagaimana yang terjadi di tempat-tempat tersebut? Penelitian ini tidak bertujuan untuk membuat generalisasi namun bersifat idiographik, dengan mengambil studi kasus pada jurusan arsitektur fakultas teknik (JAFT) Undip. JAFT Undip saat ini tidak memiliki ruang komunal yang dirancang secara khusus. Fenomena yang terjadi, terdapat kecenderungan pemanfaatan ruang publik sebagai lalu lintas (traffic flow), dikarenakan keterbatasan ruang . Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk menemukan pola setting ruang komunal sebagai sarana kegiatan interaksi mahasiswa di JAFT Undip dan untuk menemukan indikasi yang muncul dari perilaku mahasiswa saat melakukan interaksi sosial terhadap ruang yang dianggap (oleh mahasiswa) sebagai ruang komunal. Interaksi mahasiswa sebagai variabel bebas, sedangkan setting ruang komunal menjadi variabel terikat. Penelitian ini merupalcan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan arsitektur dan perilaku Analisa data menggunakan kategorisasi dan kesamaan isi (content analysis) Metoda pengumpulan data melalui pemetaan perilaku (behavior mapping), observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian adalah : (1) Setting ruang komunal pembentukannya dipengaruhi oleh kondisi setting (fisik dan spasial), aktifitas dan tuntutan atribut. Kondisi setting man tertenth mendorong kecenderungan terjadinya suatu aktifitas, dimana keduanya dipengaruhi oleh tuntutan atribut. Alctivitas yang berbeda memiliki tuntutan atribut yang berbeda. (2) Setting ruang komunal yang ditemukan membentuk suatu pola; pola setting terhadap interaksi sosial dan pola interaksi sosial terhadap setting. Pola setting ruang komunal terhadap interaksi sosial yang terbentuk berdasarkan aktivitas yang dilakukan mahasiswa, menunjukkan pola yang mengalir, sedangkan pola, interaksi sosial terhadap setting menunjukkan pola Ether dan memusat. Pola tersebut terlihat dan pola pergeralcan yang terjadi, lay out dan perilaku mahasiswa saat menggunakan ruang komunal, yaitu sikap postural tubuh saat berinteraksi. Kecenderungan mahasiswa adalah duduk bergerombol, bergabung dengan teman sate angkatan sambil bersandar pada sudut ruang, dimana hal ini dipengaruhi oleh tuntutan atribut kenyamanan fisik. ( 3) Terdapat ruang komunal yang tidak diminati, kurang diminati dan sangat diminati mahasiswa saat melakukan kegiatan dalam berinteraksi sosial, menyebabkan kepadatan mahasiswa yang beraktifitas secara tidak merata di ruang komunal JAFT Undip. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa masing-masing ruang komunal memiliki properties yang berbeda.. Dengan meratakan properties yang memenuhi atribut mahasiswa, dan meminimalkan properties yang tidak disukai mahasiswa, akan diperoleh ruang-ruang yang mempunyai daya tank yang sama sehingga semua ruang komunal akan diminati mahasiswa. Penyediaan properties pada ruang komunal harus sesuai dengan tuntutan atribut dan kegiatan yang dilakukan. Mahasiswa berkumpul di ruang yang menjadi tujuan kegiatannya, yang memiliki kedekatan dan kemudahan pencapaian (aksesibilitas). Aksesibilitas meliputi kedekatan jarak yang dicapai dan kemudahan pencapaian. Mahasiswa berkumpul di tempat yang memberikan visibilitas tinggi, ke arah tempat parkir dan kearah kehadiran dosen menuju ruang kuliah untuk mengetahui kedatangan dosen atau temannya
