PENGARUH TEKNOLOGI INFORMASI DALAM MENCIPTAKAN 'NOVAS' DAN KEUNGGULAN BERSAING BERKELANJUTAN (STUDI KASUS PARA PENGGUNA TEKNOLOGI INFORMASI DI PERUSAHAAN JASA PERBANKAN DI KOTA SEMARANG)

ABSTRACT Information technology is an important thing for trade world in the globalization era. For hoping to get competitive advantage, many firms had invested to information technology (Kettinger et al. 1994). Triyono (1998) and Clemons and Row (1991) said that effect to the firm is really raise competitive advantage. There are many research to prove this, some of that had done by Kauffman and Well (1989), Harris and Katz (1991), Weill (1992a, 1992b), Wilcox (1994), Raymond et al. (1995), Byrd and Marshall (1997), Sriram et al. (1997), and Sohal and Ng (1998). The other side, some of researcher like Vitale (1986) and Clemons and Kimbrough (1986) said that raising competitive advantage by information technology is more difficult than the theory. Even Clemons (1991) had found that information technology just as strategic need. This research gap that developed the research with objectives are: (1) To analysis the relationship between information technology and innovation characteristic, (2) To analysis the relationship between innovation characteristic and sustainable competitive advantage, (3) To analysis the relationship between information technology and sustainable competitive advantage. Those aims became three hypotheses The research model that made to answer the problem, based on three variables, they are information, technology, innovation characteristic, and sustainable competitive advantage. The methodology is confirmatory factor analysis and full model from Structural Equation Model (SEM) on Amos version 4.0, for measuring goodness of fit of Chi-square, Goodness of Fit Index (GFI), Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index (AGFI), The Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), and Critical Ratio (CR). Analysis had done to £4 data from the user of information technology at the Bank Mandiri, BNI, BCA, and Lippo Bank in Semarang City. Test result show that all hypotheses are accepted. It means there are positive impact between information technology and innovation characteristic, innovation characteristic and sustainable competitive advantage, and information technology and sustainable competitive advantage. The conclusion is information technology can influence innovation characteristic and sustainable competitive advantage, beside that innovation characteristic itself can influence sustainable competitive advantage. The research is also connecting research result to theoretical implication and managerial regulation about how important to use technology information, especially for the bank companies. Beside that, the limited of the research and further research agenda could become guidance for future research. ABSTRAK Teknologi Informasi merupakan bagian yang penting bagi dunia usaha dalam era globalisasi. Banyak perusahaan yang melakukan investasi pada teknologi informasi dengan harapan dapat memberikan keunggulan bersaing (Kettinger et al. 1994). Triyono (1998) dan Clemons dan Row (1991) lebih menegaskan dengan pemyataan bahwa pengaruh yang dirasakan perusahaan adalah meningkatnya keunggulan bersaing. Banyak penelitian yang dilakukan untuk membuktikan bahwa teknologi informasi dapat memberikan pengaruh bagi perusahaan, seperti oleh Kauffman dan Well (1989), Harris dan Katz (1991), Weill (1992a, 1992b), Wilcox (1994), Raymond et al. (1995), 3yrd dan Marshall (1997), Sdram et al. (1997), serta Sohal dan Ng (1998). Tetapi muncul pendapat yang mengatakan bahwa kenyataannya pencapaian keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan melalui teknologi informasi akan terasa lebih berat daripada teorinya, seperti yang dikatakan Vitale (1986) dan Clemons dan Kimbrough (1986). Bahkan Clemons (1991) menemukan bahwa teknologi informasi hanya sekedar sebagai keperluan strategis. Research gap inilah yang dikembangkan untuk penelitian, dengan tujuan: (1) Menganalisis hubungan antara teknologi informasi dengan karakteristik inovasi; (2) Menganalisis hubungan antara teknologi informasi dengan keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan; (3) Menganalisis hubungan antara karakteristik inovasi dengan keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan. Masing-masing tujuan tersebut menjadi hipotesis yang kemudian diuji. Untuk menjawab permasalahannya, dikembangkan model penelitian yang terdiri atas tiga variabel, yaitu teknologi informasi, karakteristik inovasi, serta keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah confirmatory factor analysis dan full model dad Structural Equation Model (SEM) pada program Amos vesi 4.0, untuk mengukur goodness of fit yaitu Chi-square, Goodness of Fit Index (GPI), Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index (AGFI), The Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) dan Critical Ratio (CR). Analisis data dilakukan terhadap 94 responden yang merupakan pengguna teknologi informasi pada Bank Mandiri, BNI, BCA, dan Bank Lippo di Kota Semarang. Hasil uji menunjukkan bahwa semua hipotesis yang diajukan dapat diterima, berarti ada pengaruh positif antara karakteristik inovasi dengan teknologi informasi, ada pengaruh positif antara karakteristik inovasi dengan keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan, ada pengaruh positif antara teknologi informasi dengan keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknologi informasi selain mempengaruhi karakteristik inovasi juga mempengaruhi keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan, sedangkan karakteristik inovasi itu sendiri juga mempengaruhi keunggulan bersaing berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini juga menghubungkan hasil penelitian dengan implikasi teoritis dan kebijakan manajerial terhadap pentingnya penerapan teknologi informasi, khususnya bagi perusahaan jasa perbankan. Adapun keterbatasan penelitian dan agenda penelitian mendatang dapat dijadikan acuan bagi para peneliti selanjutnya
