Faktor—Faktor Yang Mempengaruhi Income Smoothing Pada Perusahaan Go Public Di Bursa Efek Jakarta :Sektor Manufaktur

ABSTARCT This research is designed to exainine the income smoothing in Indonesia. Income smoothing can be viewed in term of the reduction in earnings variability over a numbers of periods, or within a single period, as movement toward unexpected level of reported earning. Income smootbing may be defined as the intentional dampening of fluctuations about some level of earnings that is currently considered to be normal for a firm (Belkoui, 1985:156). Objective of study tO exainine factors influencing income smoothing. Sixty six listed companies in Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX), during 1992-1996 period, selected using purposive (judgement) sampling method were used as research sample. The sample was then clasified into smoother and non smoother using Eckel’s model (1981), Eckel’s clasified uses one kinds of income as research objects: operating income. The result showed that there was income smoothing practiced by companies listed in JSX. Statistic tests according to hypothesis were used in the research, Common statistic include descriptive. The first hypothesis null exainined whether size did not influence income smoothing. The second hypothesis null exainined whether profitablity did not influenced income smoothing. The third hypothesis null exainined whether debt. to equity ratio did not influence income smoothing. Logistic regression was used to test this hypothesis and concluded that only the third hypothesis can be rejected. ARSTAICS! Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji práktek income smoothing di Indonesia. Income smoothing dapat dipandang dalam bentuk pengurangan variabilitas laba dalam satu periode atau lebih dan satu periode. Belkoui (1985:156) menyatakan bahwa income smoothing merupakan suatu cara yang digunakan oleh perusahaan (manajer) untuk mengurangi fluktuasi laba agar sesuai dengan target yang diinginkan, Tujuan dad penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tindakan income smoothing. Terdapat 66 perusahaan yang terdaffar di Bursa Efek Jakarta, periode 1992-1996, yang dipilih melalui purposive (jus4fikasi) .cample. Sampel dildasifikasikan ke dalam income smoothing dan non income smoothing dengan menggunakan indeks Eckel (1981). Kiasifikasi Eckel (1981) hanya mengguimkan satu jenis income yaitu operating income. Dad ghasil pengklasitfikasian tersebut menyatakan bahwa tindakan income smoothing telah dilakukan oleh perusaliaan yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Jakarta. Statistik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berdasarkan hpotesit-L’. Statistik yang umum digunakan adalah satistik dekriptif. Hipotesis 1101 pertama menyatakan apakah size tidak mempengamhi tindakan income smoothing. ITipotesis nol kedua menyatakan apakah profitabilitas tidak mempengaruhi tindakan income smoothing. Dan hipotesis nol ketiga menyatakan apakah DEl? tidak mempengaruhi tindakan income smoothing, Regresi logit digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis tersebut.
