Erythrocyte membrane alterations mirror those of vascular smooth muscle and renal tubular cell membrane. The interaction between adducin and Na-K pump is the most likely biochemical mechanism responsible for the increased tubular Na reabsorption and hypertension in Milan hypertensive strain (MHS) rats.
