background: utilization in Islamic republic of Iran,made it necessary to investigate the hospital beds efficiency intensively.Thereore, the ministry of health and medical education conducted a research on this topic in 1994to1996. materials and methods: Working on a model on occupancy rate and daily census data gathered from all hospitals of the governmental sector in ardebil. After computerizing, the data were analyzed and the suitable number of beds for every section in hospitals were calculated based on this model.
