The concept of “sustainable development” has grown significantly in recent years and nowadays economic, social and environmental attribute are encompassed by many new development projects. In view of its territorial anchorage, industrial mining heritage constitutes as means of local development par excellence. This thesis, entitled “Sustainability in the reuse of industrial heritage” focuses on the implementation of the principles of sustainable development on a project for the reuse of the industrial heritage of the Mining Park of Abbadia de San Salvatore (Tuscany, Italy) This research has allowed us to identify the approach of reuse in industrial mining heritage by developing a sustainable strategy, based on economic recovery, the protection of memory and local identities, and the awareness regarding the conservation of the natural environment
