Ion-beam-etched Ti:sapphire rib waveguides in pulsed-laser-deposited layers show single transverse-mode laser emission at 792.5 nm with an absorbed pump power threshold of 265 mW. A quasi-cw output of 27 mW for 1-W absorbed power and a slope efficiency of 5.3% were obtained with a T = 4.6% output coupler and 8% duty-cycle
