In order to improve knowledge about scattering processes and their effects on the backscattered signal, accurate modelling of radar backscatter is required. In this paper we present a stochstic, coherent and fully-polarimetric scattering model which simulates the propagation of an electromagnetic wave through a medium containing raindrops of various sizes, shapes and orientations and calculates the backscattered signal. Some simulation examples will show the potential of the model with regard to understanding and predicting various effects and scenarios
