Infant mortality refers to the death of a child less than one year of age. It is a sensitive index of the general health and welfare of the population of any nation. There are several conditions which are associated with infant deaths. These include congenital disorders, premature birth, infections, sudden infant death syndrome, road traffic, domestic accidents and infanticide and they can be classified as natural and un-natural causes. This retrospective study described the roles of the Forensic Department in Kuwait in investigating reported infant death cases due to natural and un-natural causes between 2003 and 2006.
