Autophagy, referring to macroautophagy, is an evolutionarily conserved degradation pathway. Through autophagy cells can degrade damaged organelles, lipid vesicles and misfolded protein aggregates with implications in various pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases, cancers, and infectious diseases.
