SCHOOL HEALTH ISSUES Healthy Health Education for Your School and Your Students

Students with health problems that affect their ability to learn need access to health services. When health services are available on or near school grounds—in school health rooms and school-based or school-linked health centers—students can schedule appointments during study halt or lunch period without missing class. n this era of standards-based education and &dquo;teaching to the test,&dquo; school N administrators feel pressured to include more and more in the curricu-lum. Sometimes, however, it is important to step back and ask what your students need and why. What information and skills that you learned in high school do you use regularly? What information and skills have you acquired since high school that you use in everyday life? What do you wish you had learned in high school that you did not? When considering these questions, the importance of offering many of the topics commonly taught in health classes increases. At the same time, consider the problems you encounter daily a
