Historical Development of Electroanalytical Chemistry with Some Personal Annotations

The present paper is an expansion of a causerie 1 in which I started to reminisce on meetings in my early scientific life with some of the originators of classical electroanalytical chemistry, men whose names are still found in textbooks on general, physical, and analytical chemistry. None of these originators of electroanalyti-cal chemistry was an analytical chemist. Quite gen-erally, early this century, analytical chemists were quite ignorant of the development of the new electro-analytical techniques. As a matter of fact, some of these techniques were "rediscovered " empirically at a much later date (v.i.).
