A closed-form algorithm is derived for calculating the coefficients required for trend analysis procedures used in the analysis of vari-ance. The algorithm allows for equal or unequal intervals as well as for equal or unequal sample sizes. A simple FORTRAN program is provided for calculating all trend coefficients given the values of the quantitative independent variable and the cell sample sizes
