Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most commoncause of morbidity and mortality in the US and Eu-rope.1,2 Elevated serum concentrations of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), re-duced serum concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and elevated plasma fibrinogen lev-els have a direct correlation with the development of atherosclerosis and CHD.1-4 Clinical studies have proven that, by reducing elevated serum concentrations of TC, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality is decreased in pa-tients with CHD. Treatment with hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (statins) has reduced TC, LDL-C, and triglycerides (TGs), establishing beneficial ef
