Summary: The role of somatostatin analogues in the medical management of insulinomas is unclear. We describe an elderly patient with clinical and biochemical features of endogenous hyperinsulinism attributable to a benign islet B cell disorder whose incapacitating neuroglycopaenic symptoms responded dramatically to octreotide 50 pg subcutaneously at 2200 h each night. Octreotide suppressed inappro-priate plasma concentrations ofinsulin thereby preventing fasting hypoglycaemia. Fasting concentrations of proinsulin, and 32-33 split proinsulin, as determined by two-site monoclonal antibody-based immunoradiometric assays, were also suppressed by octreotide
Introduction: Insulin is synthesized in the β-cells from preproinsulin. Preproinsulin becomes proins...
We evaluated 16 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 67 controls, aged 18-34 years. All s...
Effects of somatostatin on fasting and arginine-or tolbutamide-stimulated insulin release were studi...
Occurrence of hypoglycemia in diabetes patients is very rare. We report here a case of frequent hypo...
A 75 year old woman was treated for over three years with the somatostatin analogue, octreotide for ...
The effects on insulin secretion and on the glycaemic and androgen status before and after short-ter...
Objective: The present study aimed at evaluating the acute effect of increasing doses of octreotide ...
1. Exogenous somatostatin inhibits glucagon secretion and prevents ketoacidosis in diabetic patients...
Prevention of hypoglycaemia may sometimes be difficult in the operative period of insulinoma when pa...
