ABSTRACT The use of anaerobic digestion for the treatment of farm wastes such as chicken manure to reduce odor also produces usable fertilizer and reduces pathogens. Cardiff Laboratories for Energy and Resources, Limited, (CLEAR) has developed a cost-effective computer control system to maximize the benefits of digestion. Certain control parameters have been shown to be successful in producing a highly efficient system for farm waste treatment. The measurement of bacterial coenzymes shows how biochemical parameters can be used to control the methanogenic process. Public Health Control measures may in the future include the use of anaerobic digesters for reduction of plant and animal pathogens on farms. With CLEAR's new digester system ...
